The problem
A legacy Java / Spring Boot monolith struggled under concurrent WebSocket load from real-time collaboration.
What I built
- Rewrote the backend in Rust (Axum, SQLx, Tokio)
- Kept the REST and WebSocket contract intact, so the React frontend needed no changes
- Centralised login in Keycloak (OIDC / JWT)
- Packaged the six-service stack as one Docker image
Result
The whole platform now runs from a single docker run, with live cursors and instant board updates.
